Join us for a special all-pro comedy show, celebration, and fundraiser in honor of the late Jimmy Gunn, much-loved Bay Area comedian and favorite at Rooster T. Feathers.
100% of door proceeds will go to the Jim Gunn Memorial Fund to benefit performing arts at Kehillah Jewish High School.
Scheduled to appear: Larry “Bubbles” Brown from The Late Show with David Letterman, Conor Kellicutt host of "Meet the People Tonight," Stephen Turner, and more.
The San Francisco Bay Area lost a great comedian and friend. He was a frequent performer at Rooster T. Feathers, and our audiences loved him. This strange, short, manic, man-child was a comic legend, having performed with such comedy luminaries as Bill Hicks, Greg Proops, Margaret Cho, Patton Oswalt, and Louis CK. Along with playing in comedy clubs and colleges from San Jose to Boston, he has also appeared on Comedy Central, MTV, NBC’s Last Comic Standing and YouTube. He first started comedy in the late 1980s, took a break following a kidney transplant in the mid-1990s, and returned to comedy in the early 2000s. Since then Jimmy retired from comedy and came out of retirement more times than any of us could count.
Jim taught at Kehillah Jewish High School in Palo Alto from 2005 to 2015, and touched the lives of countless students, parents, and staff. He was accomplished in all aspects of theatrical production and had worked with local theater companies and schools since 1994. He has taught drama at Palo Alto Children's Theater, Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School and the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center in Los Gatos. He has directed hundreds of community productions and works with Kehillah students, teaching theater classes, running the after-school theater program and student productions, advising the student-run improvisational group, and directing the annual school musical. Jimmy also trained students in all aspects of theatrical production including directing, lighting, sound, set/stage building, acting, choreography and playwriting. In addition, Jimmy worked with the San Francisco International Film Festival as part of their screening committee.
Jim is mourned by his wife, Myra Lessner, his close friends Tony and Sheryl Klein, his godsons Alex and Daniel Klein, and so many students, friends, fans and supporters.
Minimum suggested donation to attend is $18, but you can choose to pay more. Pre-payment will guarantee you a seat at this event which is expected to sell out, but seating will be first come, first served. (In order to ensure we have space for all, please do not purchase a ticket if you do not plan to attend. Donations only are being accepted at the Kehillah Jewish High School Website.) There will also be an opportunity for additional donations at the door. Sorry, but Roosters' is strictly 21 and over only.
